John has been a leader in the Orlando metaphysical community for years. John has been doing landscape designs for  builders, landscape contractors, home owners and garden centers in the Central Florida area since 1973. John has a BS in Landscape Architecture from Purdue University, a minor in Forestry and a Master's background in Environmental Education from Florida Institute of Technology.  In the eighties John taught Landscape Design & Plant Materials at Valencia and Leu Gardens. DICKSON-AZALEA PARK AND THE WASHINGTON STREET BRIDGE Orlando Historic Landmarks The land now home to Dickson-Azalea Park was purchased in 1916 by State Senator Walter Rose. Developing this property appealed to Rose because of its natural setting, flowing creek and proximity to downtown Orlando. In November of 1916, Rose offered $25.00 in gold to the person submitting the best name for the subdivision. W.S. Branch, Sr. won the gold pieces, naming the new area 'Rosarden,' which was later changed to 'Rosearden.' He was inspired by William Shakespeare's play As You Like It in which the characters Rosalind and Orlando met in the Forest of Arden. Rose platted all but five acres along the east side of Fern Creek into lots for homes. The property adjacent to the creek was set aside as a park. Rose cleared the park of debris, added pathways and terraced the banks of Fern Creek. In 1924, Rose deeded the park, then on both sides of the creek and known as Fern Creek Park to the City of Orlando. Because the City of Orlando did not have a parks department or the manpower to maintain Fern Creek Park, it became overgrown. In July of 1935, the Civitan Club appeared before the City Council and presented plans for the beautification of the park. An artist's rendering of the completed park showed how preservation of the native plants and the planting of azaleas would make the park a beautiful place. Trees and shrubs bearing berries would be planted in hopes of attaching birds and making a small bird sanctuary within the park. The Civitans also proposed that a hut for the Girl Scouts be constructed in the park so the girls could study nature. The Girl Scout House on Celia Lane was built in 1938. It was the first outdoor facility of its kind built in the United States and is still used solely for functions by the Citrus Council of Girl Scouts. They also requested that the park be named in honor of Henry Hill Dickson, pioneer Orlando businessman and advocate for the City's beautification, who was seriously ill at the time. Subsequently, City Council approved the plan for the H.H. Dickson Azalea Park. The Civitan recruited help in many different forms. The Works Progress Administration was contracted to provide labor in the park. The Civitan Club also asked local businesses to adopt plots within the park to beautify. The Orlando Garden Club, First Methodist Church, employees of Dickson-Ives Department Store and the Sentinel Star Newspaper are some of the organizations that participated in the beautification effort. By 1936, the Civitans had so many visitors on Spring Sundays that they could not keep count of how many were viewing the blooming azaleas. The beautification completed, the club turned the park over to the City of Orlando for upkeep and care. The Washington Street Bridge is another significant feature of the park. By 1926 it was clear that the deteriorating wooden bridge over Washington Street could not accommodate the vehicular traffic that was increasing daily as development moved east. City Council decided to replace the structure with a modern, more durable bridge. At the same time, Washington Street was paved with brick. In July, 1926 bids were submitted by several bridge companies. A $10,400 proposal by the Concrete Steel Bridge Company of Miami Beach was chosen. The Washington Street Bridge is a reinforced concrete, closed spandrel bridge with a brick roadway. In the late 19th century, bridge engineers began to develop designs using reinforced concrete because it was easier to construct and maintain than the traditional stone. The Washington Street Bridge has three arches with closed spandrels. The tern spanrel refers to the area on either side of the arch. In this case, the spanrels are infilled or closed, rather than being transparent, like one would find on a steel framed bridge. The Concrete Steel Bridge Company, based in Miami Beach, constructed the Washington Street Bridge in 1926. It replaced a simple wooden bridge that carried vehicular and pedestrian traffic across the rapidly flowing Fern Creek. At the same time, the pine straw covering Washington Street was replaced with brick from Ferncreek Avenue to Hampton Street. The Concrete Steel Bridge Company also designed and built the Galveston, Texas Causeway Bridge in 1922, which is similar in design to the Washington Street Bridge and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Washington Street Bridge is unique to that it is the only bridge of it's kind in the City of Orlando. It is also located in a scenic and stable residential neighborhood. Florida currently has two other bridges on the National Register of Historic Places, the Seven-Mile Bridge in Marathon and the Bridge of Lions in Saint Augustine built in 1927.]

Tai Chi (Taiji) is the balancing interaction of yin and yang. Tai Chi (Taiji) training teaches us not only to train our muscles, tendons, and bones, but also to train our intention, internal feeling, awareness, and power.” This workshop explores the treasures of Tai Chi and how to incorporate Tai Chi into your daily life. Naada yoga uses sound (primarily your voice) to create a state of unity and balance between mind, body, and spirit, and also to create a union of the individual self with the Universal self. Naada Yoga doesn’t involve physical exercise and is suitable for anyone, regardless of physical ability. Musical experience or ability isn’t required. We’re all innately musical anyway. If you can breathe and have a heartbeat, you can do Naada Yoga. Naada yoga classes last about ninety minutes. We work with prana (vital energy) by chanting and singing tonal sounds along with a drone instrument. The focus is on using the vibrations of sound to move energy through the chakras. Once you learn the technique, you can practice on your own. After a short break we explore the importance of rhythm in balancing our physical and emotional states. This involves hand-clapping, foot stomping, occasional dancing, and lots of fun! Your will experience a lowering of stress levels, improved breathing, lower blood pressure, an improved ability to concentrate, and a higher awareness of your true being. Fred Cantor was born in NYC on Christmas Day. He got his first guitar at age 10. Fred’s early influences were folk singers. He soon expanded into types of music such as Latin, Soul, and the Blues. He attended NYU and learned TV production at the RCA Institute. Fred moved to San Francisco, where he played music professionally and learned music production at various Bay Area studios. Starting his own production company, Fred helped musicians use the new technology of multitrack recording. Moving on to Oregon, Fred performed as a solo artist, in bands, and became an instructor at the Oregon School of Music and Dance. An interest in Indian studies took him to India, which led him deeper into the interactions of sound, mind and body. Fred came to Florida in the 90’s, where he continues to to advance as a musician and teacher, reflecting his ongoing growth as a person. $10 (a portion goes to charity).

Square Foot Gardening is the practice of planning small but intensively planted gardens as based on Mel Bartholemew's Book. Our Family Herbalist Certification program is a thirty module course that empowers students to care for the everyday health imbalances they face as a family caretaker. It is an excellent program for those wishing to care for their children, their parents, and themselves fully and sustainably. We believe in preparing students to live in sustainable health. These modules provide students with a strong, comprehensive herbal education, covering individual herbs, herb cultivation, anatomy and physiology, alternative health modalities, plant chemistry and botany, nutrition, detoxification, medicinal formulation, and a wide spectrum of herbal preparations. Modules may be taken in any sequence, with the exception of Personal Wellness I and II and the final written assessment. The complete program includes over 75 classroom contact hours, and the study of over 200 herbs. This course may be the greatest investment you will ever make in the long-term health of you and your family. Students who graduate from our Family Herbalist Certification program have collected the experience and knowledge needed to care for themselves and the health of their families. It is our philosophy that to care for the health of others, we must first learn self-care. Thus, we have structured our program to provide you personal tools and experience which form a strong foundation on which to build your professional studies. The Family Herbalist Certification program is intended to provide the personal and familial foundation most important for those seeking to integrate herbalism into a professional or clinical setting, and serves as the prerequisite to our Community Herbalist Certification program, where students build their knowledge and gain the experiential mentorship needed to enter herbalism as a profession. The people of Tunis, Tunisia, rose up against an oppressive government using social media. The same has happened in Egypt...why do we take this gift for granted? Many of you know that Mystic Realms was a combination of two stores Mystic Glenn owned by me and Realms Beyond owned by Jackie and Jason. Jackie and Jason have decided to move on and reopen Realms Beyond as a separate store at 500 SW 10th Street, later this month. I'm sure we all wish them well and continued success at their new location. MYSTIC GLENN will continue to operate at the current location in Chelsea Square, 3315 E Silver Springs Blvd, where I have been located since 2006. I will continue to supply all the products and services you have come to expect at this location and many new plans are in the works. 5/12/2011: Generally, this is the way our schedule will run for a while, months I hope, so you can know what to expect and I won't have to prime my mind to get started each week. We will all know what the evening is about at lease in a general sense. week 1: Wildcard nights will have things like Kokology, tarot and discussions of "out there" things, religion, shamanism and anything else that comes in my path. Because I am occasionally gone on the first week of the month we will have these "less likely to happen often" items on the schedule. week 2: Astrology or video. We will look into some aspect of your natal chart. For a while we will be focusing on the Moon's Nodes. I really need to know if you are coming on astrology nights so I can prepare. And if we have video I would greatly appreciate it if you would be here and ready as early as possible so we don't run over time more than we have to. You know I love you so you'll have to police yourself. week 3: Breathwork. In case you don't know, we have purchased a carpet which will make for greater comfort on the floor. Bring a mat or towel to add to it. week 4: Energy Awareness - possible activities -- chanting, drumming, energy exercises, intuition development, vibrational activities of various sorts. If you have a percussion instrument you would like to bang on please feel free to bring it along. week 5: We will come up with something for the 5th week that occurs in some months, I think there are three more this year. Possibly a pot luck or something that is more like a family thing.
